Bringing much-needed jobs and investment into the town, the £200million one-stop shop for public services will feature three zones – Healthy Living, Information and Learning and Neighbourhoods – as well as a new 25-metre swimming pool, and adults’ and children’s library.
Written into the contract with leading construction firm Morgan Ashurst is a commitment that local people will be employed whenever possible; two thirds of those on site are from the Wigan area, and every single person there is contributing to the local shops and the local economy.
The new centre, and similar contact points throughout the borough, will put residents within easy reach of the services they need. Wigan won some £77m towards this project in tough competition with other councils, and everyone here will see the important and positive difference it makes to their lives and the quality of service they receive from their public services.
The Life Centre has been judged the best in the world by a prestigious panel of property industry experts. After taking top honours the UK Property Awards for Best Public Service Development, the Wigan project took centre stage at San Diego’s International Property Awards.
