Partnership News

With more extreme weather events expected, the borough faces more frequent and severe flooding, storm damage, heat stress and drought. Climate change also puts extra pressures on the supply of global commodities, including fuel and food, and so the normal way of life for local residents and businesses must adapt.

The plan deals with carbon reduction and the management of energy, water and waste as well as sustainable transport planning, “green” employment opportunities, risks to business and commerce, biodiversity and landscape, local food production, fuel and water poverty within local communities, and the resilience and adaptability of the local infrastructure and building stock to the expected extremes of weather.

Before the draft Strategy and Action Plan is revised for adoption later this year, we are particularly keen to hear your views such as:

  • Do you agree with the strategic approach?
  • Are there any issues with the assumptions and conclusions we make?
  • How importantly should we treat resource depletion?
  • Have we omitted anything from the strategy and action plan?
  • What are the important issues for Wigan Borough specifically?
  • Are the actions appropriate?

The consultation period will run until the last day of March. You’ll find the draft Climate Change Plan. on Wigan Council's Website.
