Golborne Lowton is the most southerly Township in the borough and is bordered by Leigh, Ashton Bryn and Tyldesley Astley Townships and covers an area including the electoral Wards of Golborne and Lowton West and Lowton East and as well as the two towns that make up its name, also contains the areas of Lowton Heath and Lowton St Marys. It is bordered by Ashton Bryn Township to the north west, Leigh Township to the north east, where it is bordered by Pennington Flash, and the neighbouring towns of Newton-le-Willows and Culcheth in Warrington to the south. Landmarks in the Township include Byrom Hall in the north, which was the ancestral home of the poet John Byrom, who invented New Universal Shorthand in the eighteenth century and Highfield Moss in the far south, which has been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest for biological reasons.
