Welcome to Standish Aspull Shevington Township page.

Township Forums are the local element of Wigan Borough Partnership and contribute to the delivery of the Sustainable Community Strategy and Local Area Agreement

Standish Aspull Shevington is the most northerly of Wigan’s Townships and at over 39 square kilometres is also by far the largest. However, due to the large rural areas around Haigh Country Park and Standish Park, it has the lowest population density of any of the Townships. It contains the electoral Wards of Standish with Langtree, Aspull, New Springs Whelley and Shevington with Lower Ground and its main population centres are around the towns of Aspull, Standish and Shevington. It is bordered by the town of Chorley to the north, which is part of Lancashire County Council, and also by Westhougton to the northeast, part of the borough of Bolton. The town of Standish contains St Wilfred’s Church, the only Grade I listed building in the Wigan borough. Shevington has its own parish council. The Leeds Liverpool canal passes through the eastern corner of the Township.
